EIGHTY three players took part in Saturday's July stroke play medal competition in a chill north-westerly breeze.
The July medal winner is Johnny Feber with a wonderful nett 65. This excellent winning score gives Johnny automatic qualification as the winning "Tiger" into the gold medal final later in the season.
Last season Johnny together with his partner And
y Hartley were the proud winners of the midweek four ball competition. His record in this intense matchplay competition is rather interesting as the first year he played in the competition with his partner Andy they reached the semi finals and then the pairing went on to win the competition the following year.
So it would appear they went one better, or is that two better? Anyway, many congratulations Johnny on this weeks superb medal win.
The runner-up in this week's medal competition and just one shot behind was Dave McCord with a nett 66. Dave qualifies as the winning "Rabbit" for the gold medal final.
Despite the windy conditions the standard scratch remained at 68.
The "2s" of the day were attained by Pete Bailey, Glen Duckworth, Laurie Dyer, Dave Haughton, Andrew Lupton and Angus Woodhead.
A special mention must be made to our talented junior members Josh Stansfield and Dan Fielden who both attained nett 67s.

- IN all 35 competitors took to the field bright and early on Sunday morning for the silver rabbit qualifier and accompanying open stroke competitions.
Conditions were sunny with a brisk westerly breeze.
The winners and qualifiers for the silver rabbit competition were Alan Payne and Dave McCord.
The winner of the open stroke competition was Mark Hamer with a nett 65. Mark certainly appears to be on a roll at the moment having recently won this year's prestigious Captain's Prize.
There were five 2s attained by Dave Arrowsmith, Mark Hamer, Rob Ogden, Alan Payne and Mick Redmond.

- THE Charlestown Trophy has been played for annually since its inception in 1992 between Todmorden Golf Club and Hebden Bridge Golf Clubs Rabbits Section.
Todmorden are proud to boast that they have held the impressive looking trophy on 13 of the sixteen occasions it has been played for.
I can now report that after Tuesday's home match Todmorden Golf Club once again have retained the trophy for another twelve months.
The five teams from each club can obtain a maximum of five points from the match making a total of 10 points for the two matches.
Todmorden rabbits unfortunately lost at Hebden Bridge 31/2 to 11/2 but then went on to win at home 41/2 to a 1/2, which works out at Todmorden 6 points, Hebden Bridge 4 points.
Rabbit captain John Stobbs was absolutely delighted with this superb victory.
Special thanks must be made to Mark Pattison for yet another excellent team selection.

- CONGRATULATIONS to Todmorden's Gary Fisher and his partner Paul Keone who were runners up at the North Manchester Open.
Gary and Paul attained 44 points in the stableford competition.
There was a wonderful selection of prizes and Gary and Paul chose to take home some stunning crystal glasses. Gary also attained a "2" on the 18th hole for which they both received 18 balls.
All in all not a bad day's play!
l "LADIES, ladies please take your partners for a Waltz…ready, and 1 2 3, 1 2 3, 1 2 3"!
Oh, yes that's right the ladies were waltzing up at Rive Rocks on Thursday but not quite in the way one might expect. This was shall we say very "strictly come golfing"!
I'll try to explain and honestly it's not as complicated as some of the other golfing formats we have played in recently so stick with me.
Here we go…the three-ball alliance waltz! The ladies play in teams of three and one of the ladies' scores count on the first hole, two of the ladies' scores count on the second hole and then with absolutely no pressure all three ladies' scores count on the third hole.
Simple, although one does tend to get a little dizzy as the format begins all over again and it is a tad nerve racking when all three team members scores have to count.
Just to make sure we were quite definitely on our toes we found some of the scorecards had a slight variation on our waltzing theme and had the scoring in reverse so it became 1 2 3, 3 2 1! Jeepers creepers, I think that must be more of a cha cha cha!
However, on Thursday there wasn't a Prada or a Versace ball gown in sight just the trusty waterproofs by Nike, ProQuip and Sunderland - but I do believe all the ladies sequins were sewn on by hand!
Despite the adverse conditions and having endured nearly an hour's shelter from the rain with only a few barley sugars, a banana and a bottle of water for sustenance our winning team were - cue drum roll "The Pink Ladies" (yes I know Irene was in navy blue, but we can have a little poetic license can't we?)
Seriously, congratulations to our waltzing champions of 2008 Alison Barker, Irena Brown and Irene Muldowney with a winning score of 64 points.
It would appear our lady captain as well as our competition secretary was having something of a blonde moment as when she opened the gift vouchers she had bought for the prizes they actually had "Happy Birthday" written inside, and with the price of diesel at the moment she could hardly go back to M & S to change them!
So should we really be saying "congrats and Happy Birthday to The Pink Ladies"?
