BOROUGH suffered a disappointing start to the West Lancashire season – but defeat at last year's relegated side was not entirely a surprise.

Already missing some players to cricket and holidays, manager Paul Harris found his resources further depleted with eight squad members off on a stag weekend.

As a result a number of last year's under-18 squad were given their chance in both the first and second teams.

The reserves on the wrong end of a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Whinney Hill on Saturday but bounced back on Monday night to win 3-1 against Haslingden St Mary's Reserves at Bellholme.

Marvin Bonney scored twice and Chris Kay added a third in a very pleasing performance.

On Saturday the first team entertains Lancashire Constabulary while the reserves travel to Burnley United.

- IT'S all change for Todmorden Sports under-15 as they prepare for the new season.

Level two coach Andrew Spencer took them through a training session and is making his services available on a regular basis.

Local businessman Kevin Whitham of Whitham Mills Engineering has sponsored a new blue and white striped shirt which the team is eager to display on its new home venue - pitch three on Centre Vale.

Jordan Mirza, Jackson Sutcliffe, Max Gale and Aaron Davies are among those ready to line up for the new season while Jamie Staroszczuk has returned to the management team.
